Biography

Kristen Harrell graduated from WCU's BSN program and attended Walden University for her MSN. She has contributed to the nursing profession at the bedside and in a leadership role. Kristen worked on various units from medical-surgical to critical care. In her leadership role she opened a new adult intensive care unit and lead the COVID unit and neurotrauma ICU. She holds a CCRN certification, a specialty certification for nurses who provide direct care to acutely/critically ill adult patients.

Teaching interests include Medical Surgical content, Advanced Nursing and Critical Care, Nursing Leadership, Clinical, and Lab.

Research Interests

COVID-19 and PTSD of Healthcare Workers. Critical Care Nursing--Cardiology, Pulmonology, Patient Safety, Reducing Risks, and Delirium. Nursing Leadership--The effects of the nursing leader on nurse performance. Resiliency, Burnout, and Emotional Intelligence. Fall Prevention--The effects of patient's fear of falls and how it can contribute to a fall.
