Biography

Dr. Asberg is currently the department head for Psychology, and has taught at WCU since 2008 (tenured in 2014). She holds a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Central Florida, and completed her pre-doctoral internship in the Adult Inpatient/DBT-SUD Outpatient track at Yale University School of Medicine (2007-08). Broadly, Dr. Asberg's research centers around stress and resilience in the aftermath of trauma (e.g., child maltreatment and other adverse childhood experiences), and the research aims to improve our understanding of variables (moderators, mediators) that may influence outcomes.

Research Interests

Traumatic stress and health, psycho-social adjustment among women in the criminal justice system; substance use in the context of child maltreatment and other adverse childhood experiences (ACEs); improving services for survivors of interpersonal violence.<br><br>Dr. Asberg will be accepting graduate students for the <b>Fall 2024</b> application cycle.
