Biography

Kathryn Dorney is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. I joined the faculty in 2022 after decades as a speech-language pathologist in schools, homes, and clinics. A native New Yorker, I find the WNC landscape peaceful and rejuvenating. I am a passionate advocate for communication and education opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Research Interests

Communication opportunities for individuals who use and need AAC; communication partner responsivity; comprehensive language intervention with early communicators; emergent literacy instruction; and decision-making in intervention.
