Homecoming Carnival

The Department of Campus Activities (DCA) exists to extend the college experience far beyond the classroom. Helping students build lasting friendships and develop leadership and interpersonal skills is our main goal. DCA provides quality programs, services, and facilities for Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵstudents, all while fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus community.

Our dedicated professional staff also assist individuals and student organizations in ideating their goals and provide space to bring them to fruition. DCA is centrally located in the A.K. Hinds University Center (UC), a modern space for students to study, hang out, attend movies and events, grab a bite to eat, and dive into student life.

Homecoming

Catamounts return home to celebrate what Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵmeans to them during homecoming.

Freshman Leadership Initiative (FLI) is a living-learning community that prepares first-year students for success at WCU by offering a variety of leadership opportunities and a home away from home during the transition to college.

  • Self-reflect on who you are as a person and leader
  • Participate in and facilitate community service opportunities
  • Develop your leadership skills
  • Plan large-scale campus events

FLI is a 3-tiered program focused on Living, Learning, and Leading.

  • Living: Participants will live together in the , allowing them to develop leadership skills in and out of the classroom among their peers. Students selected for FLI will fill out a roommate matching form and be assigned a roommate. If they have a specific member from the FLI cohort they would like to room with, please email your request to Fran Power.
  • Learning: Participants will see a direct connection between their transition to college and their development as a leader. The LEAD 140 (Fall Semester) and LEAD 180 (Spring Semester) classes introduce students to leadership development. Although not required, we encourage participants to enroll in the LEAD minor, utilize FLI as a stepping stone, and continue to develop their leadership abilities throughout their college career. Please see the LEAD Minor for more information.
  • Leading: Participants will have hands-on opportunities to put what they learn in the classroom into practice by organizing retreats, conferences, community service, fundraising, and other events and activities.

Students interested in Freshman Leadership Initiative should email Campus Activities for more information.
