Social Workers help individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations overcome challenges in their everyday lives. Social Work is direct care support, case management, providing therapy, community building, research, policy development, advocacy, and so much more. Our generalist and advanced generalist programs prepare future Social Workers for micro, mezzo, and macro level social work.
Mission of the Department of Social Work
The mission of the Department of Social Work at Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓÆµ is to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to practice at the generalist (BSW) and advanced generalist (MSW) levels of Social Work practice. Congruent with the University’s mission to improve individual lives and enhance community development in the predominately rural Western North Carolina region, the Department seeks to prepare professionals who are committed to the core Social Work values of service, respect for all people, and the advancement of social and economic justice.
Programs in Social Work
WCU’s Department of Social Work offers an in person Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree and Master of Social Work (MSW) degree that present students with a variety of career options from working in child welfare, integrated care, mental health, and addictive disorder settings to working in private practice, non-profits, social service administration, and policy.
Post-Bachelors Programs
Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓÆµoffers professional development courses for social workers in the areas of addiction treatment, culturally based native health, and school social work.
