The School of Art and Design鈥檚 Bachelor of Fine Art with an emphasis in Studio Art
is created for students who wish to hone their focus more intensively on fine art
and design.
Completing the BFA curriculum will prepare students for a career or post-graduate
study in art, design or related disciplines. Program emphases allow students to explore
a specific area of study while following a rigorous art curriculum.
After being admitted to WCU, those students who pursue the Studio Art Program must
apply for entrance by submitting a portfolio of digital images and a letter of application
that describes their goals and interests in the field. Students may do this either
as entering first-year students or as first-semester sophomores.
Ceramics

that combines technical skill development, creative exploration, and independent artistic
research.

Ceramics
Students work across traditional and contemporary ceramic processes, creating both
functional and sculptural work while developing a personal artistic voice through
hands-on studio practice, critiques, exhibitions, and professional engagement opportunities.
Facilities and Equipment
The ceramics area encompasses more than 3,300 square feet of indoor studio space and
an additional covered outdoor kiln area designed to support every stage of the ceramic-making
process. Dedicated spaces for beginning and advanced students are complemented by
specialty rooms for clay and glaze preparation, firing, and material storage.
Students have access to a wide range of professional equipment, including electric,
gas, and raku kilns, more than 20 pottery wheels, clay-processing equipment, extruders,
slab rollers, and glazing facilities that support both traditional and experimental
approaches to ceramics.

Painting and Drawing
The Painting & Drawing program at 蘑菇短视频 encourages students
to develop strong technical skills, critical thinking abilities, and a distinct artistic
voice through sustained studio practice.

Drawing Studio
The Drawing Studio provides a focused environment for foundational and observational
drawing courses. Equipped with still-life resources, life drawing facilities, adjustable
lighting, and model platforms, the space supports the development of essential drawing
skills while fostering creative exploration. Dedicated upper-level studio spaces allow
advanced students to pursue independent projects and refine their artistic practice.
Painting Studio
Spanning more than 2,300 square feet, the Painting Studio is designed to support a
wide range of painting processes and project scales. Purpose-built ventilation, flexible
work areas, artwork storage, and dedicated construction space for stretcher building
provide students with a professional studio environment. Advanced students benefit
from individual studio spaces that support sustained research and independent creative
work in both painting and drawing.

Students develop personal imagery and creative concepts through a variety of printmaking
and book arts practices while engaging in research, critique, and experimentation.
The program encourages students to understand both the technical and conceptual possibilities
of print and the book as vehicles for artistic expression.

The Print & Book Arts facilities support a wide range of traditional and experimental
printmaking processes, including relief, intaglio, lithography, screen printing, cyanotype,
and monotype techniques.
Students have access to professional printmaking equipment, digital workstations,
dedicated process rooms, and a comprehensive book arts studio featuring letterpress,
papermaking, and bookbinding resources that support both technical mastery and creative
exploration.

The Sculpture program provides students with opportunities to investigate three-dimensional

Additional Spaces and Access
Partnership with Jackson County Green Energy Park (Dillsboro, NC) with access to Methane
Foundry, Glass Hot shop and kiln.
Critique rooms and project spaces are available.
Foundations Studio: This room is dedicated to presenting both the two- and three-dimensional
design classes.
