What Is Project CARE?

For more than 35 years, Project CARE has been one of WCU’s most trusted and long‑standing student support programs. Since 1991, it has helped numerous new Catamounts build confidence, community, and a strong academic foundation.

Project CARE supports students by:

  • Creating a welcoming, close‑knit community
  • Providing intentional peer‑to‑peer mentorship
  • Offering opportunities for personal and professional growth
  • Helping students transition successfully into life at WCU

Guided by committed upper‑class mentors, the program has a proven history of positively impacting retention, graduation, and overall student success across generations of Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓÆµstudents.

Program Requirements:

To participate in Project CARE, mentees must:

  • Attend a two‑day retreat and program orientation in August
  • Commit to the full academic year and sign a participation agreement
  • Maintain regular communication with Project CARE staff and their mentor
  • Enroll in the Project CARE USI course, which fulfills the required Freshman Seminar (Note: This USI course replaces your standard first-year experience course)
