USI 160 Strategizing for Success

USI 160 - Strategizing for Success is a one-credit course to help you build your academic skills, connect with campus resources, and equip you with tools for success. Our instructors are dedicated and caring individuals with expertise in helpling students get back on track for academic success. This course will teach you tools that you can immediately put to use in your other classes. 

Get Registered for Fall 2025!

If you are required to enroll in USI 160, you need to register for the course by August 1. You will register through the Registration portal in MyWCU. You will need to search for the course by clicking on "Advanced Search" and using the "Enter CRN" to select from the options below:

  • Option 1 for Residential Students: use CRN 83046 for Mon and Wed from 9:05-10:20am
  • Option 2 for Residential Students: use CRN 83047 for Tue and Thur from 3:30-4:45pm
  • For Distance Students in Summer 2025: use CRN 51031 (LC 101 will satisfy your requirement for USI 160)
  • For Distance Students in Fall 2025: use CRN 83055 (LC 101 will satisfy your requirement for USI 160)

Who is required to take USI 160?

If you are on academic warning after your first semester at WCU, you are required to take USI 160 during your next enrolled term. Distance education students should enroll in LC 101 (CRN's listed above) as an alternative to USI 160. Students can request an alternative to this course if they were admitted as a transfer student with more than 30 transfer credits or if they will be part-time. Requests should be made to the Office of Student Retention.

What is the course format?

USI 160 is different than other classes. You will meet twice a week for one hour and fifteen minutes until the semester break and once a week after the break. We have more time in the classroom than other one-credit courses so that you can apply the skills you are learning to assignments with your instructor there to provide immediate support.
