Ceremony Information

Graduates should arrive one hour prior to the start of your ceremony. Enter the Ramsey Center through the auxiliary gym to the right of the truck tunnel with the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓÆµathletics logo.

You will pick up your name card, which will include your name and your student ID number, and then wait for the processional to begin.

Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓÆµcommencement is not a ticketed event; guests will choose seating as they arrive. Guests should plan to enter the Ramsey Center at the concourse level, and can begin arriving up to two hours prior to the ceremony start time.

What to Expect When You Arrive

Please arrive dressed in your cap, gown, tassel, and any cords or stoles. Do not bring personal items (bags, purses, etc.), as there is no storage available.

Parking options include handicap parking, Cat Tran shuttles, self-parking, and drop-off. Traffic patterns and parking maps vary by ceremony; you can view the latest map .

Students needing disability accommodations for themselves or their guests should contact the Office of Accessibility Resources at accessibility@wcu.edu or 828.227.2886. Some services, such as sign language interpreting, require advanced notice, so please request early.

Each graduate will pick up your own diploma cover and cross the stage with it as your name is called. There will be an on-stage photo opportunity with the Chancellor. There will not be handshakes or physical interactions. Once you come off the stage, there will be an additional photo opportunity in front of a backdrop. You will then proceed back to your original seat for the duration of the ceremony.

You will receive an email from the photographer with a link and instructions to view and purchase your graduation photos. If you do not receive your proof within three weeks, contact info@photospecialities.com or call 800.722.7033.

Once your ceremony has concluded, you and your guests will need to exit the Ramsey Center as soon as possible to allow staff time to sanitize and reset for the next ceremony. Graduates and guests should not congregate in or around the Ramsey Center. 
Students at Commencement
All students who graduate in the Summer semster are invited to participate in the December commencement ceremony. Information will be sent to your catamount email regarding commencement ceremony preparations as they become available throughout the Fall semster.
