Virtual Open House - Thursday, August 6: 5–6 pm

Join us at one of our upcoming virtual Graduate School Open House events on Zoom! You’ll have the opportunity to learn more about ĢƵ, participate in a Q&A with current students, and meet key program representatives.

The Master of Science in Human Resources (MSHR) program at ĢƵ (WCU) develops HR leaders who drive organizational performance through strategic insight, consulting expertise, and AI-informed decision-making.

In today’s labor market, HR leaders must deliver measurable value—not simply manage processes. MSHR graduates are prepared to be people-centered, data-informed, and strategically focused professionals who solve complex organizational challenges.

The curriculum is built around a competency-driven leadership model emphasizing strategic, relational, operational, and ethically and socially responsible HR leadership. This model prepares students to design HR strategy, influence change, improve workforce performance, and lead responsible, data-informed decision-making—including the effective use of AI in HR.

MSHR faculty bring real-world expertise into the classroom, preparing graduates to serve as trusted advisors and organizational change leaders.

What You'll Learn

The MSHR program is 36-semester-hours degree designed to develop advanced HR capability—not just knowledge. Through a combination of required and elective courses, you will build expertise across strategic, relational, operational, and ethically and socially responsible HR leadership.

You will engage with topics such as AI integration in HR, organizational analysis, talent strategy, human resource development, and employment law—while developing the ability to apply these concepts in real-world business contexts.

In two HR consulting courses, you will engage in real-world consulting projects with nonprofit and small business organizations.

As a consultant, you will analyze complex HR challenges, develop strategic solutions, and deliver actionable recommendations, applying your knowledge to drive real organizational change.

Where You'll Go

HR leaders rely on a combination of strategic, analytical, and relational capabilities to drive organizational performance. The MSHR program prepares you to apply these capabilities across corporate, nonprofit, and government settings.

You will be prepared to lead in roles that involve consulting on organizational change, integrating AI and analytics into workforce decisions, managing talent strategy, and supporting organizational effectiveness across diverse employee populations.

Your career opportunities in HR are broad and impactful, as you work across the organization to improve performance, guide change, and lead people-centered strategy.

The average annual salary for HR managers in the United States ranges from approximately $82,000 to $87,000 per year. Experienced HR leaders in corporate settings can earn over $100,000, with top roles exceeding $180,000 in high-paying industries and regions.
