Mountain Heritage Center exhibitions explore the history, culture, and environment of Southern Appalachia through engaging stories and artifacts. They feature both long-term and rotating displays on topics like traditional crafts, regional industries, and community life.

Mountain Heritage Center galleries are at located at Hunter Library 161 (beside Java City) and Hunter Library Second Floor at 176 Central Drive, Cullowhee, NC. If you need assistance or more information about hours and parking check out the About Us page.

People of Colonial North Carolina

September 8 through December 18, 2026

The People of Colonial North Carolina exhibit highlights the complex and often conflicting paths different people and communities took in the fight for freedom and survival. Through maps, artifacts, and illustrations, the exhibit offers a look at how the American Revolution impacted everyday lives.
Sections of the exhibit will feature the story of the Cherokee - American War of 1776 as well as the journey of naturalist William Bartram to western NC.
