蘑菇短视频 has received a $6,000 Civic Engagement Award grant to support student-led voter registration, voter education and civic participation initiatives through the university's Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning.
The grant will help the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning, known as CCESL, expand its capacity to engage students in the democratic process by hiring and training paid student leaders who will serve as peer educators and civic engagement ambassadors.
The deadline for students to apply for the voter outreach coordinator position funded by this grant is Friday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. CCESL will be able to do $1,000 stipends for participating students.
The initiative aligns with the goals outlined in WCU's 2026-2028 Civic Action Plan, which prioritizes embedding civic participation into the culture of the university and creating meaningful opportunities for students to engage in their communities and democratic institutions.
Grant funding will be used to compensate student leaders who will organize voter registration drives, facilitate voter education programs, coordinate campus outreach efforts, support civic engagement events and help mobilize student voters.

In addition to increasing student participation in civic processes, the project aims to cultivate a pipeline of future civic leaders by providing students with hands-on leadership experience in community engagement and voter outreach.
CCESL serves as WCU's hub for nonpartisan voter registration, voter education and civic engagement initiatives. The center works to connect students, faculty and staff with opportunities to serve their communities while promoting informed and active citizenship.
"The student leaders supported through this grant will play a critical role in helping their peers access information, register to vote and participate in civic life," Kubiak said. "By investing in student leadership, we are building the foundation for a lasting culture of civic engagement at WCU."
The Civic Engagement Award will support CCESL's efforts to expand opportunities for students to become informed and engaged citizens while ensuring voter engagement remains an accessible and impactful part of the student experience.
