New students鈥� family connections to 蘑菇短视频to be celebrated at Sept. 19 Legacy Pinning
A group of 蘑菇短视频鈥檚 newest students will be ceremoniously welcomed as members of the Catamount family by some of their own relatives who previously attended 蘑菇短视频as the university holds its annual Legacy Pinning event Saturday, Sept. 19.
Sponsored by WCU鈥檚 Office of Engagement, the Legacy Pinning celebration is a special tradition that honors incoming students who are continuing a family connection to the university, said Stacey Miller, senior director of engagement and annual giving.
鈥淒uring the ceremony, alumni family members will have the opportunity to personally pin their student with a commemorative 蘑菇短视频legacy pin,鈥� Miller said. 鈥淭his memorable event recognizes the pride, tradition and shared experiences that connect 蘑菇短视频families across generations and welcomes our newest legacy students into the Catamount family.鈥�
Prior to the pinning ceremony, attendees will hear remarks from 蘑菇短视频leaders, including Chancellor Kelli R. Brown. The keynote address will be delivered by Kate Oelslager, a 2006 graduate with a bachelor's degree in communication.
A former member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, Oelslager is currently a communication specialist with a coastal North Carolina health care agency and previously worked as a communications specialist for New Hanover County. A resident of Wilmington, she is a former staff member in the Office of Admissions at WCU. She has pinned two of her family members at prior ceremonies.
The Legacy Pinning event will be held in the main arena of the Liston B. Ramsey Regional Activity Center beginning at 10 a.m. with a breakfast buffet. Legacy first-year and transfer students and one designated alumni family member participating in the pinning ceremony may attend at no cost. Additional family members and guests are welcome to attend for $10 per person.
The event is part of Family Weekend at WCU, which includes a home football game as the Catamounts host Presbyterian College. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. in the newly renovated E.J. Whitmire Stadium.
Legacy pinning participants are invited to a pregame alumni tailgate in the Fieldhouse Lot beginning after the ceremony and ending at kickoff. After the game, the Office of Engagement will host the annual parent donor social event from 5 until 6:30 p.m.
