Social Sciences Education

What You'll Learn

Courses range from history, economics, world cultures and geography to classroom management and teaching methods. Students complete internships and student teaching experiences with mentorship from dedicated, experienced teachers and guidance from Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓÆµfaculty. They also have opportunities to participate in undergraduate research conferences, intern at historic sites or work with after-school and tutoring programs. Students also enjoy History Club activities from films to guest speakers, and department-sponsored events including an annual Fall Field Day.

Where You'll Go

Students graduate prepared to seek licensure to teach high school social studies in North Carolina public schools, and more than 90 percent of graduates from WCU’s program are employed in public schools or enrolled in graduate school.

WCU’s Social Sciences Education Program prepares students to be high school social studies teachers. The structure enables students in just four years to double major in social sciences and history while completing coursework to become a licensed teacher in North Carolina. WCU’s nationally recognized School of Teaching and Learning is committed to preparing teachers to be lifelong learners and community leaders who truly make a difference.
