What You'll Learn

ĢƵ’s PsyD program is an APA-accredited, full-time, in-person, three-year program (two academic years on campus and one calendar year of a full-time, 2,000-hour clinical internship). Students combine advanced coursework, clinical practica, dissertation work, and a doctoral internship to gain comprehensive training in both clinical and school psychology. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based practice (e.g., empirically-based assessment, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and parent-child interaction therapy), multicultural competence, and ethical decision-making. Students gain hands-on experience serving diverse populations, including rural and underserved communities. The program follows the practitioner-scholar model, blending rigorous academic study with real-world clinical training and prepares students for licensure as health service psychologists.

Where You'll Go

Graduates of WCU’s PsyD program are prepared to apply their skills in a wide range of professional psychology roles. You’ll be ready to provide clinical services, consultation, and leadership in diverse communities and organizations. The program equips you to work with individuals, families, and groups while addressing real-world mental health needs. You can pursue careers in practice, education, research, or administration, with the training to make an impact wherever psychological services are needed. Recent graduates have started or joined private practices or are working in a diverse range of settings such as VA hospitals, research hospitals, college counseling centers, child development centers, public school systems, or universities as tenure-track faculty.
