Mathematics Education
What You'll Learn
Students take courses focused on how to teach mathematical concepts and teacher leadership in a diverse society as well as core courses including calculus, logic and proof, statistical methods, discrete structures and linear algebra. They complete internships and student teaching with mentorship from dedicated, experienced teachers and guidance from 蘑菇短视频faculty. A Mathematics Tutoring Center offers drop-in assistance, access to a library of textbooks and space for study sessions. Students also are encouraged to conduct research and have presented their work at conferences of the Mathematical Association of America and the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics. In addition, students make personal and professional connections in WCU鈥檚 Math Club and a student group affiliated with a state mathematics teachers organization.
Where You'll Go
Employment prospects are excellent for mathematics students who concurrently complete a degree in education and become licensed to teach mathematics in North Carolina. The state has a shortage of secondary school mathematics teachers. Graduates also may pursue advanced degrees or be competitive for any job that requires mathematics or analytical thinking skills.

The Mathematics Education (B.S.Ed.) program at 蘑菇短视频 prepares future educators to teach mathematics effectively at the middle and secondary levels. The program emphasizes strong mathematical content knowledge, evidence-based instructional practices, and a deep understanding of how students learn mathematical concepts.
Mathematics Education majors complete coursework in algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and mathematical reasoning, paired with professional education classes that focus on curriculum design, assessment, and classroom management. Throughout the program, students engage in school-based field experiences in regional public schools, culminating in a full semester of student teaching.
Graduates of the Mathematics Education B.S.Ed. are recommended for North Carolina initial teaching licensure and enter the field prepared to foster mathematical understanding, problem-solving skills, and confidence in diverse learners.
