Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Add-on Licensure (K-12)

What You'll Learn

The Online Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Add-On Licensure (K-12) program leads to an AIG license that can be added to a license in any teaching area as well as counseling. The courses are available at either the undergraduate or graduate level. Both course sequences meet the state requirements for add-on AIG licensure. The courses cover such topics as techniques for screening, identifying, and evaluating gifted learners; models and methods in gifted education; differentiating instruction for gifted learners; promoting creativity and problem-solving; advocating for gifted students regardless of race, language, disability, gender, and/or socioeconomic status.

The four required courses in each sequence are delivered online. In addition to the online coursework, there is a one-week field experience on campus, Rocket to Creativity, which is held on the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵcampus in June. For those students who do not live within commuting distance, arrangements can be made to stay on the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵcampus during that week.

If the program is completed at the graduate level, the credits earned may be applied to the M.A.Ed. in special education with a concentration in gifted, creative, and innovative education. However, enrollment in the licensure program does not guarantee admission to the graduate school. Scholarships are available for the graduate program, including the Sharon Dole Scholarship in Gifted, Creative, and Innovative Education.
