Kim K. Winter

Dean and Professor in the College of Education and Allied Professions and also serves as superintendent of the The Catamount School at Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓÆµ. She is an experienced higher education administrator skilled in accreditation, assessment, curriculum development, enrollment and personnel management, budget and finance, as well as partnership development and advocacy. Dr. Winter’s research expertise includes the induction and retention of teachers, preservice teacher analysis and reflection on teaching, performance-based assessment in teacher education, and middle grades teacher preparation. She has remained an active scholar since becoming a full-time administrator and has secured millions in external grant funding. Dr. Winter’s teaching expertise includes higher education organization and administration, middle level curriculum and instruction, language arts methods and disciplinary literacy, young adolescent development, English Learner methods, and young adult literature. Winter has served on the Association for Middle Level Education’s (AMLE) Program Review Board, Professional Preparation Advisory Committee, and is currently on the Early Career Educators Committee. She also served on the NC State Board of Education Literacy Task Force, as co-chair of the UNC System Educator Preparation Advisory Group, on the NC Teaching Fellows Commission and the Language Arts Advisory Council for the Texas College and Career Readiness Standards, as an accreditation reviewer for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and is a past president of the National Professors of Middle Level Education (NAPOMLE). Winter holds a baccalaureate degree in Applied Learning and Development from The University of Texas at Austin and a master’s and doctorate in Curriculum with a specialization in English from Indiana State University. Dr. Winter has taught public elementary, middle, and English Learners in both Texas and Indiana.
