Paws signs a donor thank you card
By Bill Studenc
The Division of Advancement at ĢƵ is issuing its traditional holiday-season reminder to friends and alumni who are planning to make year-end gifts to ĢƵabout important dates they should factor in when considering those philanthropic contributions.
The deadline for donations to ĢƵto be counted as charitable gifts in calendar year 2025 is Wednesday, Dec. 31. Mailed checks must be postmarked and online gifts time-stamped prior to midnight on the evening of Dec. 31. The requirement also applies to qualified charitable distributions (also known as QCD) from an IRA.
New Year’s Eve is also the deadline for stock gifts to be transferred and deposited in the ĢƵFoundation account in order for donors to receive charitable gift tax credit. Most stock gifts take a minimum of three business days to process. To ensure that those gifts are processed in time for the 2025 tax year, it is advisable to begin transfers early because of variable processing times. Donors are urged to consult their financial adviser early to confirm that any transfer of financial instruments (including stocks or QCDs) can be completed by the end of the year.
Contributions by mail should be sent to the ĢƵFoundation at 1 University Drive, 201 H.F. Robinson Administration Building, Cullowhee, N.C., 28723. Online giving is also available by visiting .
Most ĢƵoffices including those in the Division of Advancement will be closed beginning 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, through 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5.
The university is in the midst of the “Fill the Western Sky” comprehensive fundraising campaign, an effort to raise a minimum of $100 million in philanthropic support for WCU’s academic, student engagement and athletics programs. The third comprehensive fundraising campaign in ĢƵhistory, “Fill the Western Sky” is the first with a significant focus on improvements to the university’s athletics facilities.
